Today RA Prime Minister A. Margaryan has received the delegation of the Regional Cooperation for Communications (RCC) who have arrived in Armenia to attend the 34th meeting of the Council of Heads of Communication Administrations and the 8th meeting of CIS Coordinating Council on Information under the RCC.

The members of the delegation briefed the Prime Minister on the past activities of this organization, which was founded in 1991 and had 12 full and 6 observing members, they spoke of the proceedings and outcome of the Yerevan meeting of RCC and expressed their appreciation of this event's high organizational standard. Long and interested discussions were said to have taken place at the meeting about the future programs and cooperation prospects of the organization. According to them, a special focus was placed on the gradual shiftover towards digital TV and radio broadcasts, establishment of closer ties of cooperation and ensuring higher quality of services in postal communications with equal access in any region. The meeting agenda comprised as well the discussion of several issues relating to State-initiated programs of information-communication technologies and other matters of topical interest. It was also stressed that the RCC, which enjoyed wide international recognition, was going to mark its 15th anniversary next year.

Appreciative of the present level of the mutually beneficial cooperation underway within the scope of the RCC of which Armenia is a full member as of the very date of its founding, the Prime Minister reiterated his government's willingness to continue backing as much as possible the existing cooperation as the ITs were considered as a priority for the Armenian economy. By noting that the field under discussion was developing quite rapidly, Mr. Margaryan emphasized the need in ensuring closer cooperation between all the countries concerned and exchange of know-how in order to have more impressioning achievements in this area and went on to express the hope that the Yerevan forum would be conducive to this end.
