RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan received a delegation led by Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg.

The interlocutors have referred to the post-electoral situation in Armenia and discussed the ways out of it. Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has stressed that the Armenian authorities will do everything in order to re-establish stability in the country.

The Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe told the Prime Minister his views and impressions gained throughout numerous contacts had during his stay in Armenia which he said will be committed to paper in full once he is back to Strasbourg. Under the present circumstances, he prioritized the need for showing a balanced approach and agreed with Serzh Sargsyan in that punishment should only be inflicted upon those having committed criminal offences.

Thomas Hammarberg stressed that Armenia is a very important country to the Council of Europe and expressed readiness to keep on cooperating with Serzh Sargsyan after his taking office as President of Armenia.
