Today RA Prime minister A. Margaryan has met with President of the Finnish Republic Tarja Halonen at the premises of "Armenia - Mariott" hotel.

Having noted the recent activation of the Armenian-Finnish relationship, the parties expressed themselves for their continued development. The prime minister expressed confidence that the current visit of H.E. Tarja Halonen will give a new impetus to this process. To upkeep the on-going political dialogue, the interlocutors found it expedient to periodically organize political consultations between the Ministries for Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

Emphasizing the need of involving the countries of Southern Caucasus, including Armenia, in the program of European Neighborhood, Mr. Margaryan noted that the development and implementation of Armenia-EU concerted action in the framework of this program was in the best interest of our country and corresponded to the main direction of the reforms in process. The prime minister noted the importance of individual approach of the European Community to each country, instead of batch accomplishment of this process simultaneously for several countries as taking place at their entry into the Council of Europe. He said that our country expected Finland to provide effective assistance to Armenia in the matter of furthering the cooperation within the framework of the program of European Neighborhood through the design and implementation of specific programs and using direct ties between branch ministries and government departments of the two countries. Having noted that Mr. Hejkki Talvitie's appointment as special envoy to South Caucasus was the reflection of the ascending interest of the European Community to our region, the head of the Armenian government highly valued his activities towards the furtherance of the political dialogue between Armenia and the EU.

With reference to the current status and the prospects for development of Armenia's relationships with the European Union and the NATO, Mr. Margaryan advised the President of Finland that in June, 2005 our country presented in Brussels a package of individual action plan for Armenia-NATO cooperation (IPAP). He expressed hope that the November referendum on constitutional amendments will serve the process of Armenia
