Today at the Government of the Republic of Armenia president elect of the Republic of Armenia, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan received presidential candidate, chairman of "The Country of Law" party Mr. Artur Baghdasaryan. After the meeting they signed a Political Co-operation Accord, followed by a presentation to the media corps, present at the signing, of co-operation envisaged within the framework of the Accord.
Political Co-operation Accord
Whereas the Presidential elections, which took place on February 19, 2008, were of pivotal significance for our country:
-Acknowledging the important imperatives of the development and modernization of the political system of the Republic of Armenia; of overcoming the domestic and exogenous challenges that the country faces; of the struggle against corruption and the shadow economy; of strengthening and developing the security system in the country;
- Realizing the need for more intensive integration into the international community; for free and competitive development of the economy; for healthy social relations and political processes that lead towards development;
-Reaffirming the need for the formation of effective political institutions operating by democratic principles; for the rooting of sound culture of competitiveness and partnership;
- Having regard to the results of the elections of the President of the Republic of Armenia on February 19, 2008;
- Noting that the combined public confidence vote cast at the presidential elections for the president elect of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan and presidential candidate of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Artur Baghdasaryan exceeds more than 1,100,000 ballots, which constitutes about 70% of the citizens participating in the elections;
-Welcoming and concurring with the proposal of the president elect of the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of the Republican Party Mr. Serzh Sargsyan addressed to the presidential candidate of the Republic of Armenia, chairman of "The Country of Law" party Mr. Artur Baghdasaryan, to co-operate in the system of strategic governance of the state, and assume the duties of the Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia;
Hereby president elect of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan and presidential candidate of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Artur Baghdasaryan conclude a Political Co-operation Accord in the format of forming a coalition government together with other co-operating forces to the benefit of the development and security of the country and the people.
