Today RA Prime Minister A. Margaryan has received newly appointed UN Permanent Representative and UNDP Resident Coordinator Ms Consuelo Bruce Vidal.

In congratulating Ms Vidal on the takeover of the responsible office of Head of UNDP Armenia Office, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that as in the past Armenia would continue participating actively in the work carried out within the UN framework and would cooperate with its various bodies and units. Prime Minister A. Margaryan expressed his appreciation of the practical cooperation maintained with our country by the UN structures and went on to stress that but for the assistance received from the UNDP Armenia Office as established in 1993 it should have been extremely difficult for the Armenian government to implement the reforms undertaken in the areas of poverty reduction, fight against corruption and different forms of organized crime, the defence of women's and children's rights. Similarly, the head of the Armenian government emphasized the role of the human development reports issued annually under the aegis of the UNDP in terms of presenting to the international community human development status in the country.

Ms. Consuelo Vidal re-assured that the UNDP would continue supporting the government of Armenia with the implementation of the Millenium Development Program and achievement of poverty reduction targets by 2015 and would help promote economic development and public welfare in Armenia.

In noting that 2005 is a landmark in the history of the UN as the 60th General Assembly is due to be held this year with Armenia to be representated by the Prime Minister, she asked Mr. Margaryan to attend the jubilee events in New York and promised to deliver the next national report on the Millenium Goals before the head of government would have left for New York.

In conclusion, Prime Minister A. Margaryan wished Ms. Consuelo Vidal every success in the discharge of her mission in our country and expressed readiness to cooperation and support.
