RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan received outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Armenia Panaiota Mavromikhali.

Thanking the Ambassador for the active efforts exercised during her tenure of office towards the strengthening and development of bilateral relations between our two countries, the Prime Minister said that the friendly ties available between our two peoples provided a solid basis for the enhancement of the level of bilateral cooperation. He stressed that significant progress could be noticed in this direction over the recent period owing to the efforts of Ms Mavromikhali and singled out trade turnover which, according to the Prime Minister, still fell short of the desired level and called for more vigorous efforts on either side. Serzh Sargsyan further noted that in spite of the transport bottlenecks available between our two countries, bilateral economic exchanges might be taken up to the expected level.

Ms Mavromikhali thanked the authorities and the people of Armenia for close cooperation and hospitality and said that she had attempted to do her utmost for the strengthening of bilateral ties between our two countries and peoples during her term in office. According Ms Mavromikhali, her activities had been translated into the reciprocated visits of the Presidents of Armenia and Greece, the holding of the latest session of the intergovernmental commission in Yerevan, which were a serious contribution to the furtherance of bilateral political and economic exchanges.

By mentioning that to date Greece had carried out several development programs in Armenia, the Ambassador advised that a 4-year program of cooperation with Armenia was under design in Greece to be launched in 2008.

Prioritizing the activation of direct contacts between the business circles, the Ambassador assured that entrepreneurs in his country were currently showing keen interest in the establishment of business ties with their Armenian counterparts.

Ms Mavromikhali further stated that she was leaving Armenia with quite favorable impressions and wherever she worked in future, she would try to be helpful to the development of Greek-Armenian relationship.

At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan wished Ms Mavromikhali every success in her future diplomatic activity.
