Today RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan called on the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Armenia and, on behalf of the Armenian Government, expressed condolences on the passing of first President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin. RA Prime Minister signed in the Book of Remembrance available to that effect. He wrote in particular: "With great sorrow and deep regret I learned of the demise of Boris Yeltsin. He stood close to the roots of the new, democratic Russia. He was an outstanding statesman of the 90s of last century who left a brilliant and unforgettable trace in History.

Boris Nikolayevich was beloved and respected in Armenia. He went a long way towards the development of the Armenian-Russian relationship at the stage of formation of our sovereign and independent States when the solid groundwork for today's strategic partnership between Armenia and Russia was being built.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, I express deep condolences to all Russians on this heavy loss and convey my sincere sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Boris Nikolayevich."
