On December 24, 2006, the RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan-led government delegation attended the funeral of late President of Turkmenistan Sapharmurad Niyazov.
"On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the people of Armenia, we express our deep condolences to the friendly people of Turkmenistan on the untimely passing of Sapharmurad Niyazov, the great son and the first President of Turkmenistan.
It would be hard to overestimate Sapharmurad Niyazov's contribution to the establishment of the Turkmen statehood. His passing away is an unrecoverable loss for all Turkmens. Similarly important is the role of Sapharmurad Atayevich in the development and strengthening of ties between Armenia and Turkmenistan.
Sapharmurad Atayevich was beloved and respected in Armenia, too. He will always remain in the grateful memory of our people as a man and political figure who extended an invaluable help to our Republic and thousands of our compatriots in times of hardship,"
