Deputy PM Tigran Khachatryan receives Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty
Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan today received a delegation led by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty.
Welcoming the Commissioner, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan highly appreciated the cooperation established with the Council of Europe in promoting the reform agenda of the Republic of Armenia aimed at transparent and accountable governance. In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the 2023-2026 Action Plan implemented by the Council of Europe with Armenia in terms of ensuring progress in judicial system reforms, strengthening local democracy, protecting the social rights of vulnerable groups, and a number of other important areas.
The interlocutors discussed in detail the policy adopted by the Government to protect the rights of Karabakh refugees. In particular, they exchanged views on the work carried out by the Government to ensure the access of displaced persons to educational, health, and social protection services, as well as sustainable employment and housing.
Referring to the results recorded in the socio-economic inclusion of refugees, Commissioner O'Flaherty highly appreciated the rapid and prompt response of the Armenian Government, as well as touched upon the achievements made in recent years in the areas of democratic progress and human rights protection in Armenia.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on a wide range of issues related to gender equality, the protection of women's and children's rights.
