The Government approved the legislative initiative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia on the bill “On Amending the Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen”. The adoption of the bill is conditioned by the need to reduce the period of compulsory military service provided for in the 2021-2026 program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
The 2021-2026 program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia envisages a reduction in the term of compulsory military service at the expense of an increase in contractual service. In recent years, effective steps have been taken to expand contractual military service, in the form of the “Defender of the Fatherland” program, the introduction of a professional sergeant system, a system of certification of servicemen, and the process of organizing contractual military service in border military units with the preservation of a long-term military pension, the results of which are assessed as positive and tend to make contractual military service more attractive and expand it. In this regard, it was found appropriate to reduce the 24-month compulsory military service term for privates by 6 months starting from the winter conscription of 2025, establishing an 18-month compulsory military service term. The bill envisages setting the term of compulsory military service at 18 months starting from the winter conscription of 2025.
The Government has approved the measure to organize the procurement process of Areni and Voskehat grape varieties in 2025. It has been established that the monitoring of the procurement process at the procurement points of economic entities carrying out procurement of Areni and Voskehat grape varieties in 2025 is carried out by the staffs of the regional governors of the Republic of Armenia.
