Arayik Harutyunyan participates in high-level discussion on Fighting Disinformation
On October 8, the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Arayik Harutyunyan participated in a high-level roundtable discussion on “Fighting Disinformation” held within the framework of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Summit in Spain.
During the panel discussion, high-ranking state officials from Armenia, Canada, Lithuania, Ukraine, Spain, representatives of civil society, the journalistic community and international organizations discussed the consequences of the spread of disinformation and manipulated information on democracy and the effectiveness of public administration. The participants emphasized the role of transparency, participation and accountability in strengthening the stability of the information environment and public trust.
Arayik Harutyunyan presented the approaches of the Government of Armenia to ensure information reliability and combat disinformation, emphasizing that cooperation between the government, civil society and the private sector is necessary to effectively overcome the problem. He noted that Armenia continues to strengthen institutional mechanisms for open governance, implement digitalization and public engagement reforms, ensuring greater transparency and public oversight of political processes.
During the discussion, the participants paid special attention to the need to exchange international experience in combating disinformation, to protect human rights and freedom of speech, as well as to deepen cooperation, with the aim of forming a healthy and trustworthy information environment.
