Arayik Harutyunyan holds meetings within the framework of the Open Government Partnership Initiative conference
Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan participated in the session of the Steering Committee of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Initiative. The Government of the Republic of Armenia officially became a member of the Steering Committee this year. The Committee is a body for developing open government policies and is composed of 11 governments and 11 civil society representatives.
Arayik Harutyunyan and representatives of the state system of the Republic of Armenia met with Aidan Eyakuze, Chief Executive Director of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Initiative, and his team. During the meeting, Armenia’s progress in implementing reforms within the framework of the OGP Initiative was presented, in particular, in the areas of improving the system of declaration of officials, identifying true beneficiaries, transparency of gifts and public procurement, participatory budgeting, institutional mechanisms for public engagement, strategic communication, digitalization, as well as strengthening democracy at the local level.
OGP Chief Executive Director Aidan Eyakuze highly appreciated Armenia’s continued progress in upholding and developing democratic principles, emphasizing that this is happening in the context of complex challenges at the global level, which affect even accomplished democracies.
During the meeting, the participants also discussed the global challenges of disinformation and various abuses observed in the information environment. The parties emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the government, civil society and international partners in order to overcome such challenges and protect the values of democratic governance.
