PM Awards Armenia’s Top 10 Athletes






Attended by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs hosted a gala event to honor Armenia’s best athletes of the year.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan personally handed cash bonuses to the top ten athletes. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, freestyle wrestler, world and European champion David Safaryan was recognized to be the best Armenian sportsman of the year. The second, third and fourth prizes went to Greco-Roman wrestling World Cup winner Artur Alexanyan, Arsen Julfalakyan and Roman Amoyan.

The following lines in the top ten are held by Sambo world champion Ashot Danielyan (5th place), footballer Yura Movsisyan (6th place) and Henrik Mkhitaryan (7th place), freestyle wrestler, winner of the European Championship Musa Murtazaliyev (8th place), gold medalist of the World Student Games in Sambo Tigran Kirakosyan (9th place) and boxer, European Championship winner Aram Avakian (10th place).

Tigran Sargsyan congratulated the athletes, wishing them every success and new achievements.

David Safaryan is the first Armenian athlete since 2002 to win world championship in freestyle wrestling.

A group of sporting figures won presidential awards and prizes issued by Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Yuri Vardanyan.
