Government Prioritizes Implementation Of Effective Anti-Corruption Policy

The Government of the Republic of Armenia prioritizes the implementation of effective anti-corruption policy and expert discussions that will help develop a clear-cut strategy aimed at identifying the exact targets. This is what Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stated during the EU Armenia mission-hosted seminar on corruption in our country.

“Developed with EU experts’ direct contribution, Armenia's anti-corruption strategy has already yielded positive results. Specifically, based on the opinion of the experts, we adopted a political decision to formulate clear targets and annual action plans to raise public awareness of our achievements. We need to target 2 or 3 fundamental problems, carry out professional analyses of the causes behind corruption and work out specific measures to eliminate them,” the Prime Minister said.

According to the head of government, aimed at combating red tape, Regulatory Guillotine is one of the most important programs implemented in our country. The program has already proved effective thanks to EU and donor support. The first legislative changes have been made, with a methodology adopted by the commission to ensure its immediate effectiveness.

Evoking a number of other successful programs, Tigran Sargsyan singled out the introduction of an electronic registration system in the unified registry of enterprises, which minimizes the risks of corruption.

“Today anyone in Armenia can register a business without leaving home and within 15 minutes’ time. This has created a favorable environment for doing business in our country. Noteworthy is the reform in the system of cadastre that has drastically reduced the corruption risks. A unified electronic database has been introduced along with one-stop shop services, which our citizens describe as a serious breakthrough," the Prime Minister said.

Tigran Sargsyan said that the government has targeted two key areas - judiciary and healthcare - where anti-corruption measures should be implemented, because they affect thousands of people.

“If we achieve tangible results in healthcare, the public will be assured of the effectiveness of our anti-corruption policy", the head of government emphasized, extending a vote of thanks to the European Union for cooperation in the field of anti-corruption..
