Broad Range Of Armenia-Kuwait Cooperation Development Issues Discussed

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received a delegation led by Kuwaiti National Assembly President Ali Fahd Al Rashid.

“We attach great importance to the expansion and strengthening of relations between Armenia and Kuwait. I am sure that your delegation’s visit will give a new impetus to the development of bilateral ties,” the Prime Minister said addressing the guests.

Thankful for a warm welcome, the Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker introduced the members of his delegation and emphasized that the visit sought to strengthen and develop bilateral ties.

The Prime Minister said to be pleased with the pace of bilateral cooperation in the fields of education and culture (Culture Days held in Kuwait and Armenia, scholarships available to Armenian students studying in Kuwait). On behalf of his government, Tigran Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the Kuwaiti Government’s financial assistance to displaced Syrian Armenians residing in Armenia.

Discussing development of bilateral trade and economic relations, the parties stressed the importance of the Armenian-Kuwaiti intergovernmental commission.

Both sides considered it a priority to establish direct air communication between the two countries. The Prime Minister said the issue will be put on the agenda of the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission.

As he briefed the guests on Armenia’s economic priorities, Tigran Sargsyan highlighted the areas of interest for cooperation, including the export of agricultural products, mining and chemical industries, information technologies, research, financial systems and health tourism. In turn, the Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker deemed it expedient to field a business delegation to our country to learn of the investment opportunities and discuss prospective action.

The guests asked the Premier about the local legislative and tax environment for foreign investors. Tigran Sargsyan said that according to the World Bank’s Doing Business World Index, Armenia is ranked 32nd among 184 countries, that is indicative of our country’s business-friendly environment and liberal tax field. He added the Armenian Development Agency will provide detailed information on the conditions offered to foreign investors in terms of laws and tax benefits.

The Prime Minister conveyed warm greetings and an invitation for Kuwaiti Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to visit Armenia. In turn, Kuwaiti Parliament Speaker Ali Fahd Al Rashid invited Tigran Sargsyan to pay a reciprocated trip to his country.
