International Forum – “MAKE ROADS SAFE”





Chairman of the National Road Safety Council of the Republic of Armenia Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the international forum “Make Roads Safe”, organized by the National Road Safety Council of Armenia.
Addressing the hosts and participants of the forum, the Prime Minister noted, "Road safety has been in focus recently. We appreciate the assistance of the public which facilitates our task considerably since by cooperating with civil society we raise public awareness for the benefit of joint action. The government’s national program too was drafted with direct participation of our society. It is a guarantee that we will be able to reduce the number of road accidents in Armenia.”
Concerning the proposed areas of activity, Tigran Sargsyan described the steps to take in this direction. In particular, he emphasized the importance of introducing in Armenia road audit and public awareness raising systems.

During this “Make Roads Safe” international forum, which is the last in a series of events held this week in Armenia, the speakers outlined those efforts undertaken both In Armenia and abroad in this field. Reports were made by FIA Foundation Director General David Ward, Chief Road Inspector, Head of the Road Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russian Federation Victor Kiryanov and the Country Manager of World Bank in Armenia Jean-Michel Happi.
The forum summed up the results of nationwide school essays, paintings and composition contest held under the motto “Road Safety and me”. The head of the Government handed out prizes to the winners and was photographed with them.
The FIA Foundation Director General David Ward invited the Prime Minister to take part in the opening of UN-proclaimed program “Decade of Action” on Road Safety and introduce Armenia’s achievements in this field. The program launch will be held on April 2011 in London.
Putting his signature under the motto of the UN-proclaimed program, Tigran Sargsyan reaffirmed RA Government’s commitments to the goals of the aforementioned “Decade of Action” program.
