Address by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan to Armenian Economic Association Symposium Participants

Dear Participants,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear Guests,

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and on my own behalf, I extend a warm welcome to you on the opening of the 2014 edition of the Armenian Economic Association’s annual symposium. I am glad to join you at this important event, which is meant to identify new ways of development for modern economies.

It is encouraging that the AEA has managed to bring together scientists from different countries and universities, professors, students and government officials, who are prepared to make their contribution to the development of Armenia’s research capacity in the economic and social fields.

I am especially pleased that symposiums like this are attended by our Diaspora compatriots, who have been so kind to share the wealth of knowledge and experience gained in well-known international academic centers. This is a decisive factor behind the viability of this symposium.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Armenian Economic Association for valuable contribution to the development of research capacity in the country. I am also highly appreciative of the share taken in this process by the Yerevan State University, the American University of Armenia and the Armenian-Russian (Slavic) University.

Dear attendees,

The Government looks forward to continued economic growth for the coming years. Our policy focus is the citizen of the Republic of Armenia whose welfare can only be enhanced through a well-developed economy, especially the private sector. The Government’s activity will be aimed at economic development based on innovative technology and large-scale investment.

This symposium will deal with the challenges faced in trade, industry, finance, labor, public sector, education and other fields. They are in direct correlation with Armenia’s economy, and I am confident that the symposium’s results will help us develop a more effective strategy in the relevant areas of activity.

I am convinced that we are in for an exciting and useful discussion in an atmosphere conducive to the emergence of new ideas. I wish you fruitful work and new achievements.

Thank you.
