PM Briefed on Meghri FEZ Development Activities

Chaired by Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, a consultation was held in the Office of Government to discuss work on the further development and expansion of the Meghri Free Economic Zone (FEZ). In particular, the Premier was briefed on the steps aimed at improving infrastructures and attracting private companies.

Negotiations are underway with about a dozen new companies engaged in various fields that have shown interest in the Meghri FEZ. Technical matters are currently being addressed, including the acquisition of plots of land.

Stressing the importance of the aforementioned activities, Prime Minister Karapetyan issued specific instructions. The stakeholders were told to closely cooperate with the Iranian Aras FEZ and relevant Iranian authorities in order to step up work on the establishment of a new export-import company.

Karen Karapetyan was also briefed on the progress in the Meghri border checkpoint modernization and reconstruction program. It was reported that the design and cost estimate works will be completed by the end of April. The program provides for expanding the customs area, building a new administrative building with all necessary infrastructures and refurbishing the customs office with modern equipment.
