PM Receives EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Commission Delegation

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received the members of the European side of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Commission, headed by Commission Co-Chair Sajjad Karim.

Pleased that the 17th session of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Commission is being held in Yerevan, the Prime Minister stressed that our country highly appreciates the signing of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

“This is an important event for us. The Agreement comes to reaffirm both our commitment to continued large-scale reforms and European Union’s commitment to support us in this process,” the Premier said. The Prime Minister advised that work is underway to establish an inter-agency commission to implement the Agreement.

Karen Karapetyan stressed the importance of the General Aviation Zone Agreement, which was initialed at the Brussels Summit, as well as Armenia’s accession to the research and innovation-targeted Horizon-2020 and SME support-oriented COSME programs. In addition, the Prime Minister appreciated Armenia’s adherence to Creative Europe and the successful completion of the talks on Partnership Priorities.

Stressing that the ratification of the Agreement may provide additional incentives for European companies, the Head of Government outlined the opportunities available in Armenia. He pointed out that due to the fact that various preferential trade regimes are applicable in our country, Armenia should be viewed as a platform for entering EAEU, EU, U.S. and Iranian markets.

During the meeting, Karen Karapetyan answered some questions of interest to European parliamentarians, which mainly referred to the implementation of the steps specified in the Agreement, the ongoing reforms, the Government’s growth-oriented efforts and other issues of topical interest.
