Today RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan has received Academician Sen Arevshatyan, director of Matenadaran and chairman of the board of trustees of "Friends of Matenadaran" charity fund, as well as Mr. Arshak Banouchyan, executive director of the Fund and Mr. Ruben Hacobyan, artistic manager of the New Armenian Computer Fonts Program.

Briefing the Prime Minister on the activities carried out by "Friends of Matenadaran" charity fund since its establishment in 2001, the members of the delegation made a presentation of the future plans of the Fund. In prioritizing the replenishment, preservation and publishing of the manuscripts kept in Matenadaran, Acad. Sen Arevshatyan indicated that the leadership of Matenadaran and the Fund looked forward to a possible assistance on the part of the Prime Minister and the government in respect of both program implementation and the preparation of the celebrations of 1600th anniversary of the Mashtots-authored Armenian alphabet in 2005, including the activities related with the creation of new Armenian computer fonts.

Mr. A. Margaryan advised that a Prime Minister-led government commission had been set up to prepare the celebrations of 1600th anniversary of the Armenian alphabet. At its first meeting to be held one of these days, the commission was going to review the list of the jubilee-related events taking into account all the proposals made by the leadership of Matenadaran. He stressed that the creation of the new Armenian computer fonts had been previously discussed at the meetings of the IT Development Support Council (ITDS) with relevant instructions given to the entities concerned. The progress reports and further proposals regarding the fulfilment of these instructions would be entered on the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of the Council. The Prime Minister noted that should they wish so, the representatives of Matenadaran and the Fund could attend the meetings of the Council to present their views and suggestions with regard to agenda items of their interest.

In closing, Prime Minster Andranik Margaryan reassured the guests of his government's willingness to extend as much as possible backing to Matenadaran and "Friends of Matenadaran" charity fund.
