PM, U.S. Ambassador Reiterate Readiness for Continued Cooperation

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Armenia John Heffern.

Stressing the importance of continued development of U.S. - Armenian relations, the Prime Minister highly valued the U.S. Government’s support for Armenia reforms and reiterated his government’s willingness to further them ahead. “Sponsored by the Prime Minister, the Government of Armenia will continue to strengthen and intensify the ongoing cooperation with the United States. I am convinced that we will keep on cooperating closely in the future, and I look forward to your continued support for the reforms underway in Armenia,” the Prime Minister said.

Thanking the Prime Minister for reception, the Ambassador congratulated him on appointment. Pleased with the ongoing efficacious interaction with the Government of Armenia and the ties of cooperation maintained with Hovik Abrahamyan since he was the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Heffern expressed confidence that the Armenian - U.S. relationship will become ever stronger and closer during Mr. Abrahamyan’s tenure of office.

At the Ambassador’s request, Hovik Abrahamyan presented his vision of the ways to ensure continuity in reforms and implement new reforms in the country. The Prime Minister stressed that the Government would be transparent in its operations and open to the public.

The Prime Minister emphasized that each reform should be discussed with all political parties, non-governmental organizations and civil society representatives so that the public at large could understand and appreciate it. The parties went on to exchange views on a number of cooperation areas and current reforms.

The interlocutors agreed to come back to the prospects of the ongoing multifaceted cooperation and future actions following the formation of the new Cabinet.
