Address by RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan on the Occasion of the Victory and Peace Day of May 9

Dear Compatriots,

Dear Veterans of War and Participants of the Freedom Fight for Artsakh:

I am extending to you warmest congratulations on the Victory and Peace Day of May 9, which has a double meening for us.

This year the whole mankind is marking the 60th anniversary of the victory had over fascism in the Great Patriotic War and the end of World War II.

There is something behind the fact that on this 9th of May, 13 years will have passed since the liberation of Shushi from Azeri captivity. Indeed, the revocation of the heroic episodes of our people's centuries-long history, the glorious traditions shaped in the art of war and the fortitude of spirit account for our modern victories. This may well be evidenced by the successful defense of our frontiers from the Azeri armed aggression in 1990-1994, as well as by many other feats of arm witnessed in the freedom fight for Artsakh.

Heroic pages were written from the very first days of the Great Patriotic War when our people joined the others in bearing the heaviest burden of the war for the sake of Homeland's defense. The landmark victory was achieved through the self-sacrifice and heroic deeds of hundreds of thousands of private soldiers and military commanders of Armenian origin, including army marshals, admirals, generals, over a hundred of Heroes of USSR, over seventy holders of medals and orders. Armenians all over the world were enlisted in the allied armies or participated in the resistence movements to take a heroic share in the common victory and peace
