Today a meeting of RA National Water Council has been held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister A. Margaryan, Chairman of the Council.

The Council heard the reports made by the chairs of the State Water Committee under GoA and the Public Services Regulatory Commission on the status of implementation of the tasks set at the previous meeting in connection with the analysis of the progress in legislative reforms in field of water resource management and the follow-up measures. Also, discussed was the progress in the design of the national water program.

The Council took note of the report on the 2002-2004 activities as delivered by council secretary Hovhannes Tokmedjyan, chairman of the technical commission for the use and maintenance of water systems. The speaker reported that the commission had called 28 sittings in the period under review to discuss the necessity of performing water quality checks and rehabilitating dams in a number of reservoires, as well as to look into the problems faced at some pump houses and the technical solutions to addressing the situation through the design of normative papers and several other issues. The public agencies concerned were recommended to back the activities of the commission so as to enhance the level of efficiency and coordination.

Mr. Robert Nazaryan, chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, presented the views shared by the commission and the concerned entities as to the methodology and the policies applicable in water pricing (including the resource charges).

With reference to another agenda item, namely: the progress in the establishment of condominia, it was decided to hold a separate consultative meeting where the issue of condominium development would be discussed not only as part of the water supply process, but also in the general context of the drive for condominium development.
